OBX Half Marathon

One of the reasons for my recent hiatus is because I ran in a half marathon this past weekend.  If you had talked to me six months ago and said, "Nancy you will run in a half marathon" I would have started laughing hysterically and said - you have the wrong girl.  However, I did run the half marathon in the outer banks and finished the whole thing without walking.  I did it in just under two and a half hours, and it was the best feeling in the whole world!  However, one of the things I noticed during the half marathon was every mile there was a water/gatorade stand where you could grab a dixie cup of water/gatorade slam it down, and then ideally throw it in the trash can.  Trust me when running 13.1 miles very few people thought to throw it in the garbage can.  The streets were lined with cups.  However, by 9:00am the next morning, everything was clean - you would never have known there was a half marathon/marathon going on.  Was all of that garbage recycled?  It's great that it was all cleaned, but where did it all go?  I know, I'm a dork thinking about this after completing a 13 mile run, but I do wonder about these little wasteful things that could be helped with simple solutions.  Example, instead of using a trash can, have recycling cans out instead of garbage cans, or even provide runners with plastic water bottle that they can fill and reuse throughout the race.  I don't know, just an idea!
